NIPT / KUB

In Region Skåne, NIPT is offered through the public healthcare system if the KUB results indicate a probability of a chromosomal abnormality between 1 in 51 and 1 in 1,000. For those who do not meet the criteria for region-funded testing, or who would like more information than is included in the region’s analysis, there is the option to undergo NIPT privately.

What is KUB?

KUB indicates the likelihood that the fetus has certain chromosomal abnormalities. KUB consists of a blood test and an ultrasound examination. The test cannot provide completely definitive results; it only provides an estimate. It may need to be supplemented with other tests to provide a completely definitive result.

Private NIPT

Region Skåne offers NIPT is offered through the public healthcare system if the result of KUB indicates a probability of a chromosomal abnormality between 1 in 51 and 1 in 1,000.

For those who do not meet the criteria for region-funded testing, or who would like more information than is included in the region’s analysis, there is the option to undergo NIPT privately.

NIPT can be performed:

Instead of KUB
As a complement to KUB
If you would like information about the sex of the fetus
If you would like an analysis of Turner syndrome, Klinefelter syndrome or 22q11.2 deletion syndrome
(sex determination and these tests are not included in the region-funded NIPT)
