Self-Test for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea

For those who do not have symptoms or who prefer to get tested at home, self-tests can be ordered through Region Skåne.

When should I get tested?

It may be a good idea to get tested if you:

• has had or will have unprotected sex
  
  
• changed sexual partners
  
  
• have symptoms such as a burning sensation, vaginal discharge, abnormal bleeding, or pain
  
  
• I want to test you for your own peace of mind

Getting tested is part of taking care of yourself. You're always welcome here. 

Emergency Methods

There are two types of emergency birth control pills. One can be taken up to 120 hours—that is, five days—after unprotected sex. The other can be taken up to 72 hours—that is, three days. The first type is slightly more effective.  

• It is taken orally (as a tablet)
  
  
• It does not affect an ongoing pregnancy
  
  
• It may cause temporary side effects (e.g., nausea)
  
  

Emergency birth control pills are also available at our drop-in clinic at our clinic, or you can schedule an appointment if you’d like support or counseling in connection with this.

Copper IUD as an emergency method

The copper IUD is the most effective emergency method of contraception.

• Will be installed as soon as possible within 5 days after unprotected intercourse
  
  
• Provides immediate protection
  
  
• It also provides protection as a contraceptive if you want to continue using it

When should I seek help?

You should contact us:

• as soon as possible after unprotected intercourse
  
  
• if you're unsure which emergency method is right for you
  
  
• If you have questions about side effects or efficacy
  
  
• if you've already taken the emergency contraceptive pill but are bleeding heavily or aren't sure if it worked

• Emergency methods are no substitute for long-term protection—please feel free to talk to us about which contraceptive is best for you.
  
  
• Emergency birth control pills do not affect an existing pregnancy.
  
  
• The copper IUD provides immediate protection and can continue to be used as a form of birth control.
